no offense but I’ve been learning how to have fun in dumb circumstances

I was showering during the storm tonight and the light started flickering violently so I peeked out from the curtain and looked at my cat sitting on the counter and said to her “mrs obama it’s been an honor” and then the power went out

If you’re wanting to show your displeasure, don’t just tag staff or support.  Take a page out of other consumer revolts and make sure your displeasure is known.

Don’t be an idiot.  Do not threaten, harass or otherwise make this personal.  Contact these companies, make your displeasure known, alert them that you are a customer and you will be leaving their brand across all boards unless they reverse their decision.

Be clear, be concise, be polite, but make your displeasure known.

Apollo: Sister, what are you the goddess of?

Artemis: *lounging by a spring on piles of deerskin surrounded by three dozen naked girls with a dead pan expression* Virginity.

“Heracles, they’re lesbians”.

Note that the concept of “virginity” in Ancient times merely meant “unmarried”, and had nothing to do with sexual activity. Some priestesses were “virgins” because they chose (or were committed to) a life of worship, but it was merely a question of social status, not of personal choice or practice. Of course, one can suppose that this lifestyle would be rather attractive for lesbians.

So when Artemis is said to be the Goddess of Virgins, it is meant to be understood as “Goddess of Unmarried Women”, or, quite possibly literally, of lesbians.

(It’s only Christianity that reframed the concept of virginity to mean “never had sex”. Many ancient religions has “Virgin goddesses”, which symbolized feminine power, and in this case too it meant “untied to a man”, or “whole for herself”)

Guys I… I think it actually worked. 0.0;

My deepest thanks to the amazing person who has enabled me to buy a Nintendo Switch as a random act of kindness. <3

(dunno if they want to be named or not)

Either one would be good right now, I could go for some Taco Bell and I spent my last skull getting the material for my costume yesterday.

Basically what I’m saying is “thing that moves like a distorted gif, but in meatspace” works much better than “thing with tons of tentacles” as a visual representation of cosmic horror, IMHO.

Nowadays, sure, but human depictions of cosmic ineffability are always informed by time and place. In the early days of deep-sea exploration, “thing with tons of tentacles” was the very pinnacle of “holy shit what is that”; it’s just that the symbol has aged in a way that the substance has not.

Pokemon is good because everybody who plays is given the exact same storyline and choices, but every person has a completely unique experience.

There are currently over 750 trillion different team combinations, even each individual pokemon has only a 1 in 50 billion chance of being identical to another of the same species. And that’s not even including pokemon having different moves… That means that every Pokemon is a valuable once in a lifetime companion, and your adventure with your pokemon is and will always be completely unique to you, and that’s really special.

I just stumbled upon this awesome post showing a way to keep pinback buttons from falling off of your backpack/purse/etc. using safety pins.

However, it reminded me of another method that I’ve used since high school, and continue to use to this day:  Rubber earring backs.

You know…these things:

image

I had originally bought a package of them to keep my nose stud from falling out while I slept (it was the “screw” type), but then after losing a button off of my high school backpack, I stumbled upon an even better use for them.

If you place them on the pinback of the button, just ahead of where it closes, the pins can’t slip off.

image
image

It doesn’t matter what size or shape the button is.  Also, I happened to find one that wasn’t closed when I went to take pictures:

image

The earring back basically acts as a rubber stopper.  They’re made specifically to NOT slide off in order to keep earrings in place, so they work just as well keeping buttons in place, even if the buttons aren’t closed.

Considering the backpack that I had in high school…

image

…I can tell you with complete certainty that rubber earring backs are, bar none, THE best method of making sure you never lose another button ever again.  Also, they’re cheaper than safety pins (which can also pop open, thus allowing the button to slide off) and you won’t have to poke extra holes in whatever you’re putting buttons on.

Or hell, combine the rubber earring backs WITH the safety pins!  Your buttons will be COMPLETELY UNLOSE-ABLE!

Oh dear gods THANK YOU
